I was given a list by a physio who did a workplace assessment for me once but I've forgotten some of it  It was all the M's:
- Movement
- Moist heat
- Medication
- Massage

Think there were a couple more...? but you're on the right track. Hope you feel better soon

well today it was different.

woke up with pain under my arm - all the muscles under the shoulder joint are very sore. Feels like the pain you get when you've lifted something heavy for a long time, but i obviously haven't. the muscles all round my shoulder (including shoulder blade) still hurt, i just don't know what to do about the other muscles. Don't think i've ever had pain all round a joint like this before. it hurts in my armpit, down my side near it (in the area above where your bra strap goes), and all round the top and back of the shoulder.

I bought some deep heat today and a hot water bottle. I'll try the hot water bottle but not sure about deep heat??

Notsparkly, I have chronic shoulder problems. My surgery did not work and it all tore out again. I use ice more than heat. Ice is also good for headaches. I move it from my forehead to the back of my neck, just whatever feels better at that moment. I take a hot bath and lie back so most of my head is in the water and for some reason that relaxes the headache and the shoulders and back. After the bath I get into PJs (even early in the day if possible) then use the ice packs.

It is not going to fix everything, but it helps bring the pain down to a manageable level. I also have pain medication but I try not to use it till bedtime if possible. I take a daily muscle relaxer too.

Just found this thread through a search. My shoulder has been sore for a week and a half now. It seems to be a lot of the muscles around it. It is very loose downwards eg. if anything pulls down on my arm it subluxes easily and quite a way but with little pain. I am wondering if it is getting looser in other directions. It feels like the muscles are being pulled in directions they don't want to be? My massage therapist said it was almost like it was frozen last week and gently tried the trigger points she found. Some relief for a couple of days but today it's shocking. Took paracetamol (no effect) and ibuprofen (a little bit of relief) and have just taken more paracetamol in a bid to get some relief and have slapped a heat pack on it. The trouble is the pain is now radiating up my neck and I'm starting to get a headache too. Will have to go in a hot bath later. I missed my physio appt this morning (out of my control) and can't see them til next week now. I see a rheumy in Sept as I have no diagnosis yet but both my physio and remedial massage therapist have read up on HMS/EDS and think that's what the problem is.I always have some back pain but this is verging on tears pain - not cos it's SO painful, just at a level that is VERY wearing.........

Thanks for the advice and if anyone has any other tips I'll gratefully receive them!! Sorry for the whinge..... :boohoo:

Hi everyone

I have a lot of pain in my shoulders, arms and fingers at the moment, accompanied by a really sore spot at the top of my spine (which has been clicking like mad for days). Gonna have a float in the bath, but any other tips? Not much the docs can do I suppose, as I am waiting to get some physio and an OT assessment at work-so need some relief in the interim if i can get it!

thanks

I have had shoulder problems for over 12 months. An old injury led to a frozen shoulder. Visit your gp and look at physio or an orthopaedic referral. Good luck.

Muscle relaxants imo are the worst thing as they upset your ability to self brace to prevent further damage , so the temporary relief you get just causes more long term damage and disability.

Anything that causes temporary relief at the expense of masking the pain is just a waste of time because the pain is there for a reason - as feedback

Lose that , and you will never learn how to control your joints and adapt .

I totally agree, my hms specialist said that I'm not allowed to take them due to the damage it'll cause me. Some days I wish I could take them though. My hms specialist also said my vit D deficiency could be what's making my muscles so crampy and spasmy as without enough vit D the muscles dont contract properly and kinda spasm a bit randomly sobitvmay be a good idea to get tested for vitamin deficiencies :)
